Optage service line

Optage Hospice provides compassionate care that focuses on comfort, quality and support for individuals with life-limiting illness, their families and caregivers.

What does it mean to be a Companion Volunteer? It could mean a lot of things depending on the patient that the volunteer is matched with. You will work one -on-one with the patient, and sometimes their family, Some examples of what volunteers have done in the past include: reading novels and/or the Bible to patients; writing letters; painting nails or doing hair; household tasks; wheelchair walks; accompanying patient to activities, events, or Chapel so that they are able to participate, if desired; socializing; playing games; reviewing pictures or videos; pet therapy; music therapy; massage therapy. Pet visitors also welcome!

Program Benefits:

Meaningful and gratifying connections: Play an important part in the lives of clients, their families and other members of the hospice team.

Personal Growth: Enhance the skills and abilities you already have and learn new ones through the valuable education opportunities available. Training is mandatory and volunteers can take advantage of Presbyterian Homes and Services on-going education.

Just as 1 Corinthians 12 talks about many parts, but one body, each of our volunteers have many jobs, but one purpose - and that is to give back some of the blessings they have been given. We can (and do!) count the number of volunteers who have served, the number of hours that have been given, and even translate those hours into dollars. What is truly immeasurable is the difference that each of the volunteers has made to the residents and staff members. Presbyterian Homes is known for our Christian culture and high quality of life. This reputation has been built and grown over the years due to the volunteers and how they have faithfully served.
