The Melanoma Education Foundation is a non-profit public charity that provides free online melanoma lessons that are currently taught in over 1700 high schools and middle schools throughout the U.S. The lessons have saved lives of students and teachers. The way we contact schools is by finding the names of health teachers on school websites and then inviting them (by email) to check out our free online lessons. The lessons educate students and teachers about early self-detection of melanoma, a skin cancer that is often fatal unless found at an early stage. Melanoma Warriors are volunteers who find or update contact information for health/wellness teachers. We provide the names and web addresses of schools and detailed instructions for finding information and entering it in an XL worksheet that we also provide. No fundraising, selling, or phone calls are involved. The work can be done anytime. We send lists of 40 schools at a time and ask that the information be completed within 7 days. Volunteers can typically get the information in about 4 hours. We can accomodate large numbers of volunteers and we will gladly provide community service letters, verifying volunteer-reported hours, on request.

At last count over 1700 schools in all 50 states were utilizing our online videos to educate students about early self-detection and prevention of melanoma. The teacher-training video and student videos produced by MEF received Gold Triangle awards from the American Academy of Dermatology.
