Boarding House Mentors is seeking volunteers for their 17th Annual Pass the Stoke Summer Surf program for at-risk youth. Surfers and Non-Surfers Welcome!
Boarding House Mentors introduces at-risk youth to the exhilaration of surfing, in order to broaden their life experiences with positive healthy non-competitive activities that may have a significant impact on their self-image and self-confidence.
In the "Pass the Stoke" Surf Community, Youth learn to surf in a fun, supportive environment under the supervision of experienced surfers and volunteers who share the positive impact that surfing had on their own lives. Pass the Stoke Surf Sessions are held at Will Rogers State Beach. The 2019 session consists of 5 consecutive Sunday surf sessions. Our program includes equipment, food and beverage, and other beach activities for the youth and volunteers.
Dates of surf sessions:
July 14th, July 21st, July 28th, August 4th, and August 11th, from 9am to 2pm.
Our Volunteer Orientation for new volunteers is 8 am on July 14th before the main event.

Description
Boarding House Mentors introduces at-risk youth to the exhilaration of surfing in order to broaden their life experiences with positive, healthy, non-competitive activities that may have a significant impact on their self-image and self-confidence. Boarding House Mentors youth learn surfing in a fun, supportive environment under the supervision of experienced surfers who share the positive impact that boards sports have had on their lives. We hope to foster a love of surfing so that both youth and their mentors will adopt these sports as a popular activity that they can pursue on their own. Ultimately, it is our hope that youth will find that surfing is a healthy sport that they can enjoy for a lifetime that will open new opportunities beyond their usual environment.
