Roll up your sleeves and help make your community stronger!
At TCV Food Bank + Thrift Store, the heart and soul of our operation is our marketplace. Last year we gave out over 6 million pounds of food to community members in Fremont, Newark, and Union City. Each pound went through the hands of at least one warehouse volunteer and we anticipate a large increase in the amount of food we distribute in the coming months. That means we are in constant need of volunteers who will directly serve our clients. We are especially in need of volunteers in the months of September and November.
Get exercise! Work in a great team! Learn how a warehouse operates and acquire warehouse management skills! Get a reference or recommendation after a period of time volunteering with our warehouse supervisors! Have fun while helping the community!
The Foodbank is open Monday-Thursday. Volunteer shifts are available from 7:30am-3:30pm. Volunteer tasks may include:
Help stock our shelves while clients make their food selections
Sort boxed and canned foods
Help our clients while they select food
Light clean-up at end of shifts
TCV Thrift Store is a place where community members can shop for quality clothing and furniture at a great price! We also offer emergency clothing assistance and some household items. Our thrift store items are donated by the community and all the revenue goes back into our food bank, so we can help end hunger.
We are looking for volunteers with a positive attitude who enjoy retail and interacting with a diverse population. Thrift store volunteers assist by sorting and pricing donations, helping keep the store organized, and providing excellent customer service. Not only can you use this opportunity to interact with those in your community, but you will also experience the positive changes volunteering makes.
Our Thriftstore is open Monday-Thursday from 8:30am-4pm and Friday from 9am-12:30pm.
Volunteer Orientation: Come join and start making a difference right away! Our Volunteer Orientations are hosted every Wednesday at 10am and Thursday at 1pm. Orientation is only 30-40 minutes long. You can enter the door with the sign above that reads "Community Pantry". Let the person at the front counter know you are here for volunteer orientation and they’ll get you set up. Please be sure you are on time or even 10 minutes earlier than the start of orientation.
Setting a Volunteer Shift: Our shifts are flexible and we work with your schedule! Volunteers are welcome to immediately volunteer with TCV following orientation. We request volunteers notify the Volunteer Coordinator 24 hours in advance for any volunteer shifts or cancellations and work a minimum two hour shift.
Parking: Please park in the Tree of Life Church parking lot at the corner of Peralta and Maple, 4140 Peralta Blvd, Fremont. Our site is located next door and you will need to walk around the long fence up towards Peralta Blvd. We are situated behind the Quality Auto shop.
High School Student Volunteering: During vacation periods, such as Spring Break, we take students on a first come, first served basis and shifts have a maximum number of volunteers we can accommodate. Shifts are typically all filled almost a month in advance.
Age Requirements: Minors must have parental consent to work at the food bank. Those under 16 must also be accompanied by a parent/chaperone at all times.
