Building Futures & Foundations -Historically, young people exiting foster care experience poor outcomes with high social costs. National statistics show that: More than 1 in 5 will become homeless upon turning 18. 1 in 4 will be incarcerated within 2 years of exiting foster care Further, New Mexico statistics show: Only 1 in 4 will have a high school diploma or GED by their 19th birthday Fewer than 3% will go on to college. This is the current reality... But, it doesn’t have to be. YOU can make the difference. Building Futures & Foundations (BFF) is an innovative project that matches young people ages 14 to 21, who have or are at risk of aging out of the foster care system, with committed community volunteers in long-term mentoring relationships. Mentors receive extensive training on how to provide guidance and support to foster youth in hopes of instilling resiliency and building the skills needed to become successful adults, thus improving outcomes and providing a lasting connection with a stable and caring adult who isn't paid to be in their life. Mentors and mentees are provided intensive, ongoing support to help ensure strong and lasting relationships. Change a life. Become a mentor. Contact us at www.buildingfuturesnm.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
