This community based mentoring program provides a child with a caring adult to help promote self-esteem and provide a stable adult role model. At this time Mentors are needed throughout Anne Arundel County.
We are looking for both Male and Female Mentors. Mentors can provide guidance and stabilty to a student through monthy planned activities surrouding skills working on self-esteem, independence, goal planning and more.
Being a mentor requires a minimum of two hour monthy commitment for four months. You along with other mentors will meet with the students once a month for two hours. There will be pre-planned fun activities surrounding some learning objective creating a bonding relashionship with the students.
Our next cycle of mentoring will take place May 2025 - August 2025.
A mentor should be a great listener, and able to listen without being critical or passing judgement. A mentor is someone that a youth can count on, someone that can show them that they are special, important and capable of being the person that they want to be!

Mission Statement
The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Sevices will assist County residents to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency; provide services to strengthen individuals and families; and join our community partners in the protection of vulnerable children and adults.
Description
Our government agency assists people in need by administering a wide range of public assistance programs. Primarily, we help low-income people as well as families and children in crises.
We help low-income county residents access food stamps, medical assistance and temporary cash assistance. And, we help them pay their heating bills when they lack the income to pay it themselves. We also collect and distribute child support payments.
In addition, we investigate allegations of child/adult abuse and neglect. Too often, the silent victims of family violence and volatile family dynamics are children. When necessary, we remove children from their families - either temporarily or for the long term - when the children are not being properly cared for by their families.
The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services is the local office of the Maryland Department of Human Resources (DHR).
