You Can Make A Difference

The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services Mentoring Program serves children, ages 6 to 20 years old. This community based mentoring program provides a child with a caring adult to help promote self-esteem and provide a stable adult role model. At this time Mentors are needed throughout Anne Arundel County.
We are looking for both Male and Female Mentors. Mentors can provide guidance to a student who has assignments for school to complete. We do have a need for some outstanding men to come forward and step up to be a Mentor.

Mentors spend their one-on-one relationship time with their "Mentee" doing a variety of activities. * (Mentors should meet with their "Mentee" once a week for one to two hours.) **This can be some virtual and some in person.

These can include a trip to the library, park, grab something to eat, or just going for a walk. Mentors should be an individual that can help to support and empower a youth as well as help to set boundaries and offer suggestions for constructive use of time. A mentor should be a great listener, and able to listen without being critical or passing judgement. A mentor is someone that a youth can count on, someone that can show them that they are special, important and capable of being the person that they want to be.!!

About Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services

Location:

80 West Street, Annapolis, MD 21401, US

Mission Statement

The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Sevices will assist County residents to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency; provide services to strengthen individuals and families; and join our community partners in the protection of vulnerable children and adults.

Description

Our government agency assists people in need by administering a wide range of public assistance programs. Primarily, we help low-income people as well as families and children in crises.

We help low-income county residents access food stamps, medical assistance and temporary cash assistance. And, we help them pay their heating bills when they lack the income to pay it themselves. We also collect and distribute child support payments.

In addition, we investigate allegations of child/adult abuse and neglect. Too often, the silent victims of family violence and volatile family dynamics are children. When necessary, we remove children from their families - either temporarily or for the long term - when the children are not being properly cared for by their families.

The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services is the local office of the Maryland Department of Human Resources (DHR).
