Become part of a vibrant learning community and help a local adult get the education they need to pursue college or a living wage job.
Tutors volunteer at least once a week in classes for adults seeking to learn English (ESOL). Students learn to speak, listen, read and write English.
Volunteer tutors become a valued part of these classes, giving students more support and allowing them to progress faster. Tutors may work one-on-one with a learner, allow the teacher to divide the class in small groups, or work with the whole class to provide practical and moral support.
Tutors meet weekly with the same class, lead by a professional teacher.
Classes are held weekday mornings and evenings. We will work with you to find a class that suits your schedule, skills and interests.
No formal teaching/tutoring experience, or knowledge of a language other than English is needed - just good communication skills, a desire to help and willingness to learn!
Training is provided. All volunteers complete a free 12 hour training workshop series.
