The IRC Miami Regional Office provides immigration services to over 500 clients per year. For many, this can be a stressful and lengthy process. The Immigration Specialist provides basic consultation to clients on the process of residency and citizenship, and assistance with the completion of immigration forms. The Immigration Services Assistant will support the Immigration Specialist to ensure clients successfully complete the immigration process.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Immigration Services Assistant will support the Immigration Specialist primarily by: Conducting initial eligibility assessments of potential applicants Assisting with the accurate completion and of application forms for clients. Notifying clients via telephone or mailings about matters related to their applications. Assisting clients with any additional necessary procedures, such as requests for evidence and follow-up advocacy Assisting clients with immigration and citizenship informational forums Conducting outreach mailings Helping conduct citizenship interview preparation workshops. Assisting with tracking, filing, and mailing relevant documents, applications, and notices of action

REQUIREMENT: Fluency in English and Spanish. Well spoken, able to place cold calls, good record keeper. Willing to learn. Patience.

Description

Since 1960, the Miami resettlement office has resettled more than 10,000refugees, providing them a fresh start and opportunities to use their greatest resources--their motivation, their skills and their experiences--to become independent and self-sufficient new Americans. Currently, the office resettles and/or provides assistance to over 1,000 refugees, asylees, and victims of human trafficking per year in Miami

The IRC makes sure newly arrived refugees receive:

  • a furnished home
  • help with rent
  • health care
  • nutritious, affordable food
  • English language classes
  • help building job, computer & financial literacy skills
  • education for their children
  • social services and community support
  • legal services toward residency & citizenship
