Urgent need of assistance in this department!!! Apply if you are fluent in English and fluent in either Spanish or Arabic. Must speak 2 of these languages to be considered for this opportunity. All volunteers/ interns will be interviewed for this position and language skills will be tested.

PURPOSE: The Resettlement Services Program is the first point of contact for newly arrived refugees and offers support, guidance and counseling though all stages of resettlement. The Case Management Team provides initial services to orient refugees to life in the U.S., including (but not limited to) securing housing, addressing medical concerns, registering children in school, applying for Social Security cards, and linking refugees to our internal and mainstream services. Case managers also offer counseling in home budgeting, crisis intervention, family counseling and other areas of social adjustment. The Caseworker Assistant will support the Case Managers in ensuring refugees successful resettlement. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Visiting families in their home. Home visits are required 24 hours from the refugees arrival and once more at when they have reached 30 days from their arrival. Proper documentation and reports must be completed and filed. Case notes must be completed for each procedure performed such as following up with DCF on public assistance Following up with Social Security Agency to complete social security paperwork Assisting refugees in attending doctors appointments Registering refugee children for school Securing housing and furniture for newly arrived refugee families. Providing general administrative support to the Case Manager. REQUIREMENT: Must be willing to drive. Must have a car. willing to perform home visits. Must be a Responsable person with great communication skills. Willing to learn and be taught. Requires patience.

Language requirements: Fluency in English is a must. Fluency in Spanish if applying to work with our Spanish speaking refugees. Fluency in Arabic in order to assist our Arab speaking refugees.

Since 1960, the Miami resettlement office has resettled more than 10,000refugees, providing them a fresh start and opportunities to use their greatest resources--their motivation, their skills and their experiences--to become independent and self-sufficient new Americans. Currently, the office resettles and/or provides assistance to over 1,000 refugees, asylees, and victims of human trafficking per year in Miami

  • help building job, computer & financial literacy skills
  • education for their children
  • social services and community support
