The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. Community service hours provide a personal touch to families in need, and allow our patients to get the best care possible. Kaiser Hospice/Home Care of Orange County serves both patients in the home setting and provides support services at their Tustin office location.
Hospice Volunteers provide specific services of either a supportive patient/family care nature, or clerical duties are available. We request all those sending us a reply interest email, to please state their age category and specific interest. (IE. High School/age 18-21 or age 21 or older).
Volunteers under 18 can assist on weekend duties in the Tustin Office to do administrative task with other likeminded youth. Those 18-30 can also participate in office admin. duties in the Tustin office during regular business hours.
Those who desire experience and offering kindness and companionship in the home of a Hospice patient, they must be age 21 or over, and must meet all qualifications. If accepted, they may offer weekly visits to our home bound patients, providing respite for the family members of Hospice patients.
Based on application, specific qualifications apply for each type of volunteer service. Ages 16-20 require 6-8 hours of training. For those 21 or older, we require 12 hours of inservice training. All Volunteers must apply, with those 18 and over, must complete background check, receive health screening and clearance, and proceed through our training program beginning their volunteer service.
Pet Therapy, Music Therapy, creation of crafts are included as volunteer service projects. Home visitation may include: doing errands for families, providing respite for caregivers, reading to patients, offering listening skills. Each of these are included in services offered to our hospice families.
