ESL Teacher for Elderly Refugees

Cause Areas

It's flexible! We'll work with your schedule.

3200 University AvenueDes Moines, IA 50311

Help elderly refugees aged 60 and over who are working toward their goal of becoming citizens. Volunteers help in a variety of ways, but mostly by being friendly American faces to those who are often afraid of practicing English. We have seven different class levels staffed with a lead teacher and assistant. Additionally, we have volunteers who tutor one to one, and some who just come to fill in wherever they are needed. We will help you find just the right spot to have a positive volunteer experience and will assist you in learning how to work with clients in effective ways.

Elder Program ESL classes take place Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 am-12:00 pm.
