Hedonisia Hawaii EcoFeminist Community was tucked away in the rainforests of the Big Island, Hawaii. We offered a unique volunteer program that allowed visitors to enjoy an affordable stay in paradise working on projects aligned with their ideals.

Our community focussed on female empowerment with programs that supported gender equality on the web and on our beautiful pre-volcano 4-acre property.

The Kilauea volcanic eruption destroyed Hedonisia Hawaii on May 26, 2018. 75% of the property is now covered in lava.

We are documenting our history, working on our ecofeminist projects, and plans for our rebirth.

We are seeking a volunteer who is an expert with Final Cut Pro or Apple iMovie to create a documentary about our history, the volcano's destruction of Hedonisia, the projects we manage, and our effort to rebuild.

We want to use Hedonisia photos and videos from our archives with photos and footage of our post-volcano plans.

We can share a folder of the Hedonisia Apple Photo/Video Album so you have the raw material to work with. We want a volunteer who is comfortable communicating by phone so that we can discuss the project.

If you decide to stop before the project is complete, you can share your video project files with us so we can continue working from where you left off.

Our goal is to produce an information video that tells the Hedonisia story from our birth to rebirth.

Hedonisia EcoFeminist Community: Our community is based on the principle of 'pleasurable activism', we try to do our bit to 'save the world' but we also try to enjoy ourselves at the same time. It is the reason we call our community 'Hedonisia'! We have fun in paradise but are not blind to the world's problems. Description

Hedonisia Hawaii EcoFeminist Community was started in 2004 in the Hawaiian rainforest. Our community was based on ecofeminism and ecotourism as our social and economic foundations.

We are idealist but also pragmatic. Through our philosophy of activist and feminist enterprise, we seek business solutions to various problems in the world.

Though our community is small, the projects we work on have a global reach. One of our feminist web projects provides women around the world with information on reproductive choice. It has been accessed by over one million women over the past decade and, as reported by women themselves, saved many lives by giving them access to reproductive choice.


In 2018 the Hedonisia Hawaii Community was destroyed by lava flow from the Kilauea Volcanic eruption. We temporarily relocated to Portland OR where we continue work on our web projects.
