Night Ministry sponsors an outdoor, ecumenical worship service called Open Cathedral - Civic Center each Sunday at 2 PM. Following the service, volunteer groups provide lunch to 75-125 people, many of whom are homeless or living on fixed incomes. Lunch typically consists of one kind of sandwich (multiple options makes for more complicated serving), drinks and a snack such as soft fruit, hard boiled eggs, chips or cookies. This is a great opportunity for youth groups!
About San Francisco Night Ministry
1031 FRANKLIN ST, SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94109, US
The San Francisco Night Ministry seeks to provide compassionate, non-judgmental crisis intervention and counseling, pastoral care and referral services to individuals in need in the middle of the night every night of the year.
Every night of the year, from 10 PM to 4 AM, the Night Ministry Crisis Counseling Line is available to anyone in any kind of need or distress. People call because they are lonely, anxious, depressed, worried, and for many other reasons. Our team of trained, volunteer Crisis Line Counselors provide compassionate and non-judgmental support to all who call.
During the same night-time hours, Night Ministers offer pastoral care and counseling to individuals on the streets of San Francisco and in bars, coffee shops, transportation centers, hotel lobbies, hospitals, and other places where people gather at night.
Each week, Night Ministry sponsors two outdoor, ecumenical worship services called Open Cathedrals. A free meal follows Open Cathedral - Civic Center, which meets every Sunday at 2 PM at Leavenworth and McAllister in San Francisco, and Open Cathedral - Mission, which meets each Thursday evening at 5:30 PM at the 16th and Mission BART Station.
