Did you know that there are MANY different roles in Public Health?!

Medical and non-medical volunteers are needed to support public health initiatives and response efforts throughout the year. Activities may include but are not limited to:

  • immunization clinics;
  • health education and outreach;
  • support of national health priorities;
  • support and/or augment public health staff in response to emergencies/disasters; and
  • program administration and support.

Mission Statement

Mission : The mission of the Norfolk Medical Reserve Corps (NMRC) is to organize and train local medical, health and community volunteers to support and/or supplement existing medical emergency and public health response efforts in the City of Norfolk. Vision: The heart of the Norfolk Medical Reserve Corps is our vision to be actively involved in creating and maintaining a healthy community through volunteer energy, initiative, expertise and leadership.

Description

The purpose of the NMRC is to strengthen communities by establishing a system for medical and health volunteers to offer their expertise throughout the year, as well as during times of community need. In an emergency, volunteers with a wide variety of skills are needed to assist with the public health response.

The objectives of the NMRC are to:

  • Establish the necessary organizational, operational and administrative procedures for effective operation;
  • Identify and outline professional specialties, qualifications and training needs for membership;
  • Increase the capacity of the community to respond during emergencies by activating the MRC.
