ORGANIZATION: i.d.e.a. Museum

i.d.e.a. Museum gallery volunteers have an important role in our visitors' experience. They interact with our visitors by facilitating activities, encouraging children to explore, and answering visitor questions. Volunteers also monitor our galleries, re-stock supplies, maintain a safe and fun learning environment, and help out with materials prep and cleanup.

Volunteers may also assist with our daily story time, art classes offered at the museum, school field trips, and other special programs and events. **While these programs are on hold right now, once they resume, volunteers will once again have the opportunity to assist with them.**

PLEASE NOTE: All museum staff and volunteers are required to wear face masks properly (covering both mouth and nose) throughout the length of their shift. This includes time spent in the museum galleries as well as in behind-the-scenes work areas. Visitors ages 6+ are also required to wear face masks, and they are recommended for young visitors ages 2-5. More information and details on COVID-related rules and protocols will be shared during training.

This is a great opportunity for:

  • High school or middle school students who need service hours
  • College students who need course-related service learning hours
  • Retired educators who want to continue working with children in a fun educational setting
  • Those interested in art education or museums
  • Everyone in between who is interested in gaining experience working with kids!

Formal education experience is not required and training will be provided.

Teen Volunteers

i.d.e.a. Museum welcomes middle and high school volunteers ages 14 and up. Attending a Teen Volunteer Orientation & Training (generally offered monthly) is the first step toward becoming an i.d.e.a. volunteer. This combined orientation and training session includes a tour of the exhibition galleries, discussion of volunteer opportunities, volunteer expectations, engaging with the public, and other helpful information for our teen volunteers. After this session, teen volunteers are ready to schedule their first volunteer shift. Contact Ana for dates and registration links.

Adult Volunteers

i.d.e.a. Museum also welcomes adult volunteers with varied backgrounds and experience levels to get involved with educational programs as well as daily gallery activities. All volunteers 18 and over must pass a background check prior to starting (free of charge). Contact Ana to schedule an interview and tour of the museum.

If you would like to sign up for a volunteer orientation or would like more information, please contact:
