Heartland's Refugee and Immigrant Community Services provides support to refugees in seeking employment, adjustment and resettlement services to achieve self sufficiency. It also provides services designed to integrate refugees into the mainstream community. Refugee and Immigrant Community Services (RICS) annually resettles more than 150 individuals in Chicago from places like Bhutan, Burma, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo-Brazaville, Cuba, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iraq, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Somalia & Sudan. RICS serves an additional 500 refugees through a variety of services including cultural orientation, adjustment counseling, employment, job readiness and placement services, as well as medical case management, family literacy, and English language training for adults.
We are looking for volunteers to assist in our Drivers Education Program as a volunteer driving instructor.
* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
* Interest in working with refugees in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, and multi-ethnic environment.
* Patience and flexibility.
* Willingness to complete and pass a background check.
* Willingness to provide verification of driver's license, proof of automotive insurance and driving record.
* Volunteer hours are flexible and based on your availability.
Language proficiency in Amharic, Arabic, Burmese, French, Russian, Somali, Spanish, or Swahili is helpful, but not required.

Description
Heartland Human Care Services (HHCS) is the human services partner of Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights, a servicebased human rights organization that provides material assistance to meet basic human needs and other services and advocacy that foster empowerment, societal participation, and self-sufficiency. HHCS delivers a variety of services to newly-arrived refugees, asylees and immigrants through its Refugee & Immigrant Community Services (RICS). RICS is comprised of a dedicated, multi-lingual and multi-cultural staff with diverse backgrounds and expertise in the refugee and immigrant fields.
