With no familiy or support system the world quickly turns into a sad and lonely place. Help keep it a bit more happy and help people stay a bit more connected to it by becoming an Elbow to Elbow Volunteer Driver
Commitment is easy; volunteer ONLY WHEN YOU CAN, and when a senior needs your help. We schedule rides on your availabilty.
As an Elbow to Elbow Driver, you will be covered by our RSVP Insurance policy (at no charge) and will be eligible for reimbursement of travel.
Elbow to Elbows is a collaborative effort of RSVP, JFCS & AJCC, with the generous support of the Archstone Foundation. Our volunteers provide transportation for seniors by matching volunteer drivers with seniors who are in need of transportation and some assistance in getting to: Senior Centers, medical appointments, grocery stores and social activities. This is an excellent opportunity to build relationships, bridge generational gaps and make a difference in someone's life.
Again commitment is easy, Elbow to Elbow shifts are flexible and based on needs of the rider and the volunteer's availability. Remember:
- All volunteers drivers will be matched with riders within a reasonable distance from there homes (about a 5 mile radius)
- You will be provided a secondary portal to portal insurance policy
- You will be providing rides to homebound seniors who have no other means to get to/from activities
- You must have a semi-flexible schedule that allows driving during week days, and to some select weekend activities
- You will be eligible for limited mileage reimbursement, if it helps you volunteer

Description
The Long Beach Jewish Community Center was established in August, 1948. Expanding to meet the growth of the Center and its members, a campaign from the Jewish Federation was established in 1956 to build a new center at the present location. Ever expanding growth of the JCC resulted in the need for yet a bigger building. On September 28, 1997 the Center celebrated the first formal groundbreaking ceremony. The new Alpert Jewish Community Center on the Weinberg Jewish Federation Campus opened in December 2000.
