Alternatives For Girls helps homeless and high-risk girls and young women avoid violence, teen pregnancy and exploitation, and helps them to explore and access the support, resources and opportunities necessary to be safe, to grow strong and to make positive choices in their lives.
Under supervision of the Resource Center Manager, the Resource Center Volunteer serves as a listening ear and conduit of information about resources inside and outside of AFG. The volunteer will answer the phone and assist any walk-ins seeking assistance. Volunteers are provided basic orientation and program specific training by Alternatives For Girls.
Resource Center Training will take place on: March 7, 8, 13 from 5:30-9:30 p.m.
Volunteers must be available minimally two shifts per month. Shifts are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Volunteers are asked to make a 1 year minimum commitment to the agency.

Description
Alternatives For Girls (AFG) is a Detroit-based 501(c)3 nonprofit serving homeless and high-risk girls and young women. Since 1987, AFG has provided critical services to the girls and young women we serve, including safe shelter, street outreach and educational support, vocational guidance, mentoring, prevention activities, and counseling. The goal is to empower the girls and young women we serve to make positive choices.
