Come join the fun with others like minded volunteers as a Community Educators with the Virginia Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP). Teach seniors, their families, caregivers, and the public to prevent, detect and report Medicare fraud.
SMP is searching for volunteers to help with any of the following tasks or all 3 of the following tasks:
1. Attend community events to distribute educational material about identifying and preventing healthcare fraud and SMP brochures to help spread our mission and the FREE services we offer.
2. Distribute educational material to local senior centers, doctor’s offices, businesses, churches etc. so that SMP resource materials are always available to your community.
3. Giving presentations about the SMP program within your community at local events.
SMP offers flexible scheduling. Volunteers select the days, times and locations of outreach events which best suit their availability. After training, volunteers are asked to commit to four outreach events per year. Majority of events, such as wellness fairs, are scheduled on weekdays with some exceptions that are held on the weekends.

We offer free training to be a part of a bigger picture to help seniors in your community. You will have a great time meeting like-minded volunteers as you work together to promote our mission. The Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging (V4A), a private, non-profit 501(c)(3)organization was established in 1976 to provide Advocacy, Communication, Training and Education to older Virginians. For the past 20 years, V4A had administered the Virginia SMP Program, a federal-funded program, that educates Medicare beneficiaries on how to prevent, detect, and report healthcare fraud.
