Join a team of people who are truly passionate about providing hope and encouragement to the homeless youth of our community.

As an Outreach Counselor, you will have one of the most important positions within the STANDUP FOR KIDS organization. Outreach is the essence of what we do and can be a truly fulfilling volunteer position for you. Outreach Counselors are open, non-judgmental and dedicated people who see themselves as long-term participants in a program that has the ability to make a real difference.

As an Outreach Counselor, you will interact with our homeless and street youth (average age is between 15-25), getting to know them and working patiently to help them affect positive change in their lives. As part of an outreach team, you will distribute basic food, hygiene items and warm things to the kids while offering a compassionate ear and a sincere desire to understand who they are and where they come from. Outreach requires great patience and the ability to see the value in simple interactions without a personal need or agenda to see immediate results or change.

One of the most important things we provide the kids we meet is consistency. The youth come to expect a consistent outreach schedule from us and to see familiar faces on outreach from week to week. As an Outreach Counselor, you will become one of those familiar faces, helping the kids see that there are people who care about them!

- Attend the training and orientation to prepare you for street outreach

Mission Statement

Our core mission is ending the cycle of youth homelessness. We are committed to providing hope and encouragement to homeless and street youth, one youth at a time. We carry out our mission through our volunteers who go to the streets in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives.

Description

Seattle program has created a core leadership group, implemented a solid training program and continues to recruit and train volunteers. We started our street outreach efforts on Capitol Hill in June 2009. Our Street Outreach counselors go to the streets to reach out to homeless and at-risk youth. We connects with homeless and at-risk youth to let them know that there are people who are concerned about their well-being and are there to help.

This critical bonding is the first step towards helping these kids get off the streets and live a better life.
