The Pennsylvania Equine Rescue and Retirement Foundation (PERRF) is a compassionate and dignified alternative for horses in need of shelter and/or medical care. We believe there is an absolute value in all creatures and we endeavor to create a loving and humane environment.

Dedication to rescuing slaughter-bound, abused and neglected horses - provide rescue, rehabilitation, and permanent sanctuary to equines in suffering. Advocate and educate the humane treatment of horses by offering adults and families the opportunity to develop and nurture relationships through activities with horses.

We're fighting the good fight by helping "war horses" from crisis to care through a program designed to strengthen the bond between human and horse. Our vision is to provide a safe, therapeutic, nature-based environment for people and horses to regain trust and respect through compassion and care. Provide the opportunity to improve emotional, social, mental and spiritual coping skills.

Since our rescue efforts were first initiated in 2009, PERRF continues to provide a permanent sanctuary by rescuing horses with "special needs" - such as blindness, neurological disorders, cancer, Cushing’s disease, arthritis and any other ailments that might require specialized attention, and deem the horses unsafe for riding and unadoptable. Our sanctuary is free of any obstacles and allows the horses to roam free and enjoy their retirement without the threat of being sold and transported to Canada or Mexica for slaughter.

We also provide horses in need with emergency support. We assist owners who are facing temporary hardship but remain committed to the good welfare of their horses. We offer hay/feed, veterinary/dental care and farrier services.
