Magee Rehabilitation Hospital

A perfect opportunity for a PT, OT, or pre-med student, it involves a clinical setting with patient interaction!

The family members of Magee patients come in once or twice during the patient's stay to attend therapies and to meet with their loved one's nurse for training in care needs.

Family Training Ambassadors accompany families through this process. They would serve as both tour guides and reassurers. They will be supervised by Magee Patient Care Managers.

Ambassadors would do the following:

  • Meet the family in the lobby on the day of teaching and accompany them up to the unit.
  • Connect the family with the patient's nurse, and facilitate scheduling a time that day to meet with the nurse
  • Accompany the family to the scheduled teaching sessions (usually an hour each of OT, PT and speech, then half an hour of nursing).
  • If there is lunch in the middle of the schedule, accompany the family to lunch and then back to the unit
  • Help with clerical needs, copying, and other duties as assigned
  • Assist in the day room with patient activities
  • Observe the teaching, so not in an "active" role the entire time
