The House Of Ruth Maryland leads the fight to end violence against women and their children by confronting the attitudes, behaviors and systems that perpetuate it, and by providing victims with the services necessary to rebuild their lives safely and free of fear.
Located in Owings Mills, Ruth's Closet is the first social enterprise developed by the House of Ruth Maryland. This resale boutique offers high quality, gently worn merchandise at affordable prices. Staffed primarily by dedicated volunteers, 100% of the profits will fund programs to help victims of domestic violence and their children rebuild their lives safely and free of fear.
Job Responsibilities
- Retail sales assistance to customers.
- Stock room operation.
- Moving bags and boxes of donations from donors' cars into the shop.
- Transportation assistance, including transfer of donations between locations.
- Set up/take down merchandise displays.
Qualifications
Must be willing to work as part of a team and take initiative. Must provide your own transportation.
Time Commitment
Commit to a minimum of 8 hours/month in the retail and/orstock room operation.
Volunteers can work at Ruth's Closet during its hours of operation:
- Tues. 10am-5:30pm
- Wed. 10am-5:30pm
- Thurs. 10am-6:30pm
- Fri. 10am-5:30pm
- Sat. 10am-5:00pm

Description
The House of Ruth Maryland was founded in May of 1977 by a coalition of women's organizations, religious groups, service providers, and elected officials to provide a safeohaven for victims of domestic violence and their children. In November of 1977, we opened Baltimore's first crisis shelter for these victims in a row house on North Calvert Street. Today the House of Ruth Maryland is recognized as one of the nation's most comprehensive domestic violence center and has a staff of more than ninety.
