Project is looking for volunteers to sew kid-friendly king-sized pillowcases with drawsting for foster kids. When a child is taken from a home that has been deemed unsafe by Department of Child Safety (DCS) due to abuse or neglect, the child may take only a small amount of toys, clothes, and personal belongings. Many times, DCS workers just don't have enough suitcases to use so when a child arrives at a child crisis center, group home, or foster home many times they arrive with literally one or two large trash bags full of personal items. Let's help change that! Pillowcases are given to DCS offices and other foster agencies instead of them using trash bags.

Please bring your own sewing machine if you can - if not, please email me and I can make sure we have one for you. Fabric/cording is provided but you are welcome to bring your own. If you are new to sewing, we also have cutting that needs to be done and simple cording that can be sewn into existing pillowcases. Visit website for patterns. Straps and pockets are optional. Here are patterns to pillowcase bag: http://fosteringlove.tripod.com/id5.html or www.craftandfabriclinks.com/pillowcases/cases.html Sew for Foster Kids Link

Mission Statement

When a child is taken from a home that has been deemed unsafe by Child Protective Services (CPS), the child may take only a small amount of toys, clothes, and personal belongings. Many times, CPS workers just don't have enough suitcases to use so when a child arrives at a child crisis center, group home, or foster home many times they arrive with literally one or two large black trash bags full of personal items. We ask people to sew kid-friendly pillowcases with a drawstring/straps to give to foster kids instead of black trash bag. We offer monthly sewing dates. Website offers patterns so volunteers can work at their own pace. Church groups, sewing circles and others have volunteered to help with this project. Pillowcases are delivered to 6 CPS offices, Child Crisis Center and Helen's Hope Chest which give free clothes to foster kids. We meet once per month for Sewing Days. (Not Summer) Please contact to find out next Sewing Day.
