Key Responsibilities:

We have a number of opportunities for our administrative volunteers. We ask that volunteers select at least two opportunities to assist with each month.

Data Management: We collect evaluation data on clients in each of our three programs. Data Management involves entering collected data into our online database. Data entry must be performed at our office. This task is ongoing throughout the year. Volunteers can sign up for shifts weekdays between 10AM and 4PM. Volunteers are encouraged to work 3-6 hours at a time, depending on their availability.

YourLife Finance Class Packet Making: Each client in our YourLife Finance Classes receives a participant guide and class flyers. Packet making involves assembling a packet of materials for each of our YourLife Finance Classes taking place the following month. We prepare 45 to 80 class packets each month. This task may take 6 or more hours to complete and re-occurs monthly on weekdays between the hours of 10 AM and 4PM.

YourLife Finance Class Packet Preparation: In an effort to streamline our packet making process, we ask volunteers to pre-count and stack flyers included in class packets by groups of 10. This task lasts about one hour and re-occurs monthly on weekdays between 10AM and 2PM.

Volunteer Orientation Folder Preparation: The Women’s Resource orients new YourLife volunteer instructors each month. Orientation folders are prepared monthly for an audience of 5-10 volunteers. This task requires use of a copier and printer and takes 2 or more hours to complete. This task re-occurs monthly between the hours of 10AM and 2PM.

RISE! Collage Cutting: Each RISE! participant creates a values collage to imagine the possibilities she would like to explore after high school. We provide a number of pre-selected pictures to each RISE! class for the participants to choose from. Administrative volunteers cut out the pre-selected pictures and count the number of pictures per class envelope. This task may take 4 hours to complete if done alone and re-occurs twice annually in January and August between the hours of 10 AM and 4PM.

RISE! Facilitator Bag and Book Preparation: Each semester RISE! facilitators receive a bag with the materials and books they need for each lesson in the RISE! curriculum. Facilitator bag and book preparation involves sorting and pre-counting more than 15 different supplies for 10 or more RISE! classes. This task may take 3 hours to complete if done alone and re-occurs twice annually in January and August between the hours of 10 AM and 4PM.

Mission Statement

Mission The Women's Resource of Greater Houston provides free financial education and research so that women and girls have the knowledge they need to make sound financial decisions and improve their lives.

Description

Founded in 1990 as the Greater Houston Women's Foundation, The Women's Resource of Greater Houston provides free financial education and research so that women and girls have the knowledge they need to make sound financial decisions and improve their lives.

We accomplish this mission by recruiting volunteer instructors to teach free personal finance classes; providing leadership and life skills education to at-risk 9 th and 10 th grade girls through Project LEAD (Leadership Education and Development); and sponsoring research on issues critical to women, girls and families.

The Women's Resource annually teaches free financial education classes to over 6,000low income and financially illiterate Houstonians in more than 45 zip codes. Using the acclaimed FDIC Money Smart(tm) and Department of Labor Wi$e Up(tm) curricula, we help those outside the financial mainstream enhance their money skills, create positive banking relationships, build financial knowledge and confidence, and use banking services effectively. Each class participant receives a take home workbook that includes all material discussed in class, other tools they can use once they are home, and a directory of community resources. To date, we have taught over 18.000 Houstonians.
