LEARN, the adult literacy program of the San Diego County Library, offers the following one-on-one tutoring opportunities:
Teach a native speaker of English how to read and write. Opportunity currently offered on at Vista Library only.
Help a second-language learner to improve English literacy and verbal skills. This opportunity is currently offered only at Vista Library.
Help a native speaker of English or a second-language learner pass an exam (GED, CBEST, ASVAB, etc.). Opportunity currently offered only at Vista Library and San Marcos Library.
Tutors are asked to commit to working with at least one learner for a minimum of six months. In addition to meeting with their learners twice weekly for an hour and a half each session, tutors are expected to come prepared with a lesson plan.
If you're able to volunteer 5 to 6 hours weekly, we encourage you to get involved, make a difference, and change a life!
