We are looking for an energetic, dependable individual to run our small office in Deale, Maryland (south of Annapolis about 12 miles) on a day by day basis.
The volunteer would work closely with the Executive Director to ensure activities were on track, correspondence accomplished, reports made, and queries answered. She/he would assist the Executive Director to prepare PowerPoint presentations, draft agreements with other countries, pay bills, track costs, handle requests from other volunteers for information, software and other supplies. Although volunteers frequently work at IEDRO headquarters, the volunteer will work primarily by himself/herself. Much of the work can also be accomplished at the selectee's home.
The incumbent would help set up and maintain a central filing system both electronically and for hard copies. It is hoped that the volunteer will be familiar with Microsoft Office software like MSWORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, etc. The volunteer may be trained to perform some of our data rescue work like scanning weather documents, entering weather data into a keying format with the computer.
Although everyone applying will be considered, our hope is that the volunteer selected will be able to work at least 3 days per week and at least 6 hours per day. More hours and more often would be greatly appreciated.
While we are asking for a volunteer, IEDRO expects to increase its funding base. Once that occurs, there is a possibility that this volunteer position will be reconfigured into a for-pay position.
This position would be ideal for someone who can multitask easily and be able to follow procedures and communicate well. This might include customer relations specialists, teachers, real estate associates, financial loan officers.
IEDRO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to locate, image, digitize, archive all historic environmental information in the world and provide applications to the user community to develop value-added products. Presently we are concentrating on historic weather observations. We have over 30 volunteers worldwide with about a dozen in the Washington DC area. Check out our website http://IEDRO.ORG.

Description
The International Environmental Data Rescue Organization, IEDRO, is a non-profit organization that assists the scientific and educational communities of mainly developing countries to locate, rescue and digitize all their environmental data currently at risk on perishable media and to make those digitized data freely and openly available to the world scientific and educational communities before those data are lost forever.
After the US Government ceased its support to rescue and digitize these critical historic weather records, IEDRO continued the scientifically critical work as a separate non-profit endeavor using private funds mainly from charitable foundations and individuals helping us gather data to give researchers a better understanding of climate change and global warming, to help prevent starvation, improve flood and mud slide forecasts, to forecast the spread of diseases such as malaria, dengue fever and yellow fever.
Our activities include the discovery, rescue and digitization of foreign environmental data, mainly meteorological (weather) observations, now residing on paper, microfilm and microfiche and magnetic tapes.
We support scientific research and operations in meteorology, hydrology, climatology with additional support to the fields of agriculture, ornithology, oceanography, disease control, rural development, transportation, construction, disaster preparedness and especially climate change and global warming throughout the world.
