What do greeters at HVZ do?
During our Phase 1 reopening, we're in need of volunteers to help welcome our guests and keep our Zoo safe. Greeter duties at HVZ include:

  • Set our guests' visit off right by welcoming them to our Zoo
  • Answer guest questions about animals and Zoo layout
  • Thank guests for visiting and donating
  • Give out masks to those guests that may need them

Volunteer Hours
Greeter shifts are available every day of the week 9:30-12, 12-2:30, and 2:30-4:30PM. We require a minimum of two shifts per month for six months for a volunteer to be considered "active"; however, we can work with you if your schedule/driving distance may not allow for that.

Requirements

  • A friendly smile
  • A genuine desire to improve Zoo guests' experience
  • A team spirit
  • Dependability
  • At least 14 years old. Youth 10+ can volunteer with an adult.
  • (Optional) Bilingual/Multilingual volunteers strongly encouraged to apply

COVID-19 Health/Safety

  • In accordance with Dane County and state mandates, all staff, volunteers, and visitors over the age of 4 are required to wear masks at all times when on grounds. We provide paper masks free of charge for any visitor or volunteer who may need them.
  • All greeter positions are outdoors (to allow for distancing) in shaded areas. We have stools/chairs for those volunteers who may have a hard time standing for extended periods of time.
