Pennsylvania Street Gardens is looking for people to volunteer at our public garden - everyone is welcome. Our master gardeners will provide all the necessary tools and training. There is always plenty to do to keep the gardens looking their best: weeding, pruning, planting, propagating, composting and building hardscape. Also, if you're interested in drought-tolerant plants or native species you can learn about those too.
We have a volunteer day on the first Saturday of every month from 10am to 12pm - just drop by! If that recurring date doesn't work, we are happy to organize additional volunteer times outside that window, just let us know!
Hope to see you at the garden,
Annie and Matt

About Pennsylvania Street Gardens
Location:
251 Pennsylvania Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94107, US
Mission Statement
To create beautiful public gardens for the Potrero Hill and Dogpatch neighborhoods in San Francisco. These gardens transform areas that were once filled with trash and crime into a beautiful place to take a walk, chat with a neighbor, get dirty gardening, or attend a community event!
Description
In December 2008, Annie Shaw, a long-time San Francisco resident, decided to take matters into her own hands. What started as a small gardening project to improve her street, quickly bloomed into a neighborhood garden with many local residents donating their time and plants.
Annie ensured the future of the garden by starting the non-profit Pennsylvania Street Gardens, and with the backing of over 250 neighbors, signed a contract with Caltrans, the San Francisco Department of Public Works and the San Francisco Parks Trust to maintain the garden.
Today, the garden has grown from a small idea to thousands of plants that now fill up almost an acre and a half in two locations: With additional financial support from the neighborhood and the city of San Francisco, Pennsylvania Street Gardens also created Pennsylvania Railroad Garden a block from the original garden. Come join us on the first Saturday of every month from 10am-12pm!CAUSE AREAS
