ORGANIZATION: Curry County RSVP/FGP

When you share your love, time, and experience, you have the power to help a child who needs you. If you’re 55 and want to share your experience and compassion, you have what it takes to be a Foster Grandparent.

As a Foster Grandparent, you’re a role model, a mentor, and a friend. Serving at one of thousands of local organizations--including faith-based groups, Head Start Centers, schools, and other youth facilities--you help children learn to read, provide one-on-one tutoring, and guide children at a critical time in their lives. Put simply, you give the kind of comfort and love that sets a child on the path toward a successful future.

Foster Grandparents may serve up to 40 hours per week. Some volunteers may qualify to earn a tax-free, hourly stipend. With Foster Grandparents, you’ll receive pre-service orientation, training from the organization where you serve, and supplemental accident and liability insurance while on duty.

And remember: When you volunteer, you’re not just helping others--you’re helping yourself. Volunteering leads to new discoveries and new friends. Plus, studies show that volunteering helps you live longer and promotes a positive outlook on life.

So get involved, and join Foster Grandparents today

417 Gidding Street, Suite 100, Clovis, NM 88101, US

Mission Statement

The Curry County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and Foster Grandparent Program's (FGP) mission is to inform and to enhance the quality of life and to foster lifelong learning and activities for the seniors in this community. Curry County is committed to the idea that involving volunteers in senior activities as well as the Clovis Municipal Schools, will assist in carrying out this mission for the senior community. Therefore, we believe that: Senior volunteers allow Curry County to provide enhanced services to the senior community. A successful volunteer program requires that staff and volunteers work as a team to implement the mission and goals of Curry County. "Volunteers do not get paid. Not because they're useless, but because they are priceless" is the quote once uttered by Sherry Anderson. We have now adopted this as our motto and firmly believe all senior volunteers are priceless.

Description

Foster Grandparents Program:

FGP has been in Curry County for over 21 years. During this time hundreds of Foster Grandparents have assisted in a levels of education, giving hundreds of teachers and thousands of students the extra advantage needed to ensure educational and life success. As a Curry County FGP, you will be assigned to a participating educational organization, specific teacher and specific children. These children are selected by the teachers as needing additional one on one tutoring and mentoring. This is where you step in. You are asked to volunteer roughly 20 hours per week, and based on income eligibility guidelines, may even qualify for a tax free monthly stipend for your service.

Retired Senior Volunteer Program:

RSVP is established in several locations throughout Curry County ranging from the Food Bank, Senior Centers and Plains Regional Medical Center. With over 200 active volunteers, thousands of lives are impacted daily. From seniors to new born babies, RSVP volunteers have a second to none attitude about improving the lives of all Curry County residents. With a 5 hour per month minimum, there is no reason every senior shouldn't be a RSVP member.
