Hospice of Southern Maine's mission Compassion, care and comfort through end of life. We provide comprehensive hospice services to terminally ill individuals and their families, including physical, emotional and spiritual services in the patient's own home, the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House or other appropriate setting. Hospice volunteers are valued members of the hospice interdisciplinary team and are considered the heart of hospice care. For those interested in working directly with patients, Hospice of Southern Maine offeres a 30-hour comprehensive training course. Trainings are offered in the spring and fall, with class size limited to 16 participants. Certified volunteers are asked to make a one year commitment to provide 4 hours/week of non-medical aid and support to patients and their families. Opportunities include the possibility of providing care in patient's homes and/or the Gosnell Memorial Hospice house, as well as on-going support and continuing education offerings.
