EVYP offers comprehensive college access programming to first generation college-bound students. We are a vibrant community of young minds and mentors. The environment is fun, relaxed, and informal. Tutors assist with homework, help students develop study strategies, and grow confidence through mentorship.
Our community tutoring program serves students in 5th-9th grade. We are looking for an ESL tutor or someone who is bilingual in English and Spanish to help some of our students improve their English speaking skills. Tutors should be comfortable enough in Spanish to communicate in everyday terms. This is a good opportunity for tutors who are learning Spanish and would like more opportunities to practice.
Volunteers commit an hour weekly on Mondays from 6:30-7:30 pm for the academic year. Tutoring does not take place during holidays or non-CPS attendance days (with the exception of teacher strike). Tutors should have received at least a 4-year degree or in the process of pursuing one currently.
If you are interested, please submit an application at www.evyp.org/volunteer or email Jenn, our Program Coordinator if you have any questions at jromero@evyp.org.

Mission Statement
EVYP prepares Chicago youth to become first generation college graduates.
Description
Access to higher learning is a key component to ending the cycle of poverty. Yet today, just one in ten youth from low-income families will graduate from college by age 25. At East Village Youth Program, we work to not only prepare our youth for entering college but also ensure they graduate and go on to become successful young professionals. In 2016, 100% of EVYP youth were accepted to a four-year university. Beyond college access, 75% of EVYP college students graduate within five years. Through comprehensive college and career readiness services, EVYP builds a culture of achievement for youth and their families.
