Time Commitment:

  • One shift per week, during museum hours, OR
  • One shift per week of Art Room daily activity: 10a.m. - 2p.m., OR
  • One shift per month of Art Room Craft Club 10a.m. - noon

Description of role: Art Room Assistants help children make arts and crafts, teach about famous artists with Master Artist Studies, and keep the art room stocked with supplies. There are daily art activities, prepared special crafts (for holidays, events, etc.), free art, Craft Club, or volunteers can come up with their own art activities.

Primary duties include:

  • Actively encourage kids to enter the art room and join in the art activity by making the Art Room visible, inviting, and engaging
  • Set up, lead, and clean up an art activity in the Art Room
  • Assist kids and families working on arts and crafts
  • Teach kids about famous artists with Master Artist Studies and encourage them to create their own art

Secondary duties include:

  • Keep the Art Room stocked with supplies
  • Keep daily activities bins stocked with supplies
  • Keep the Art Room clean and tidy

Skills Required:

  • Ability to be vocal and encourage others to participate in activities
  • Ability to work with young children
  • Passion for arts and crafts and ability to lead children in activities

Training Provided:

  • Volunteer Orientation (required)
  • On-the-job training


  • Help support children’s education!
  • Gain experience teaching young kids and interacting with museum visitors
  • Work directly with young children on art activities
  • Support and feedback from staff members
