Position Summary
The Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM’s) Volunteers - Coat Check act as a valuable point of contact with all visitors including walk-in guests, tour and school groups, pubic program attendees, annual members, donors, and VIP's, to ensure a best in class visitor experience from them moment they engage with The Museum. The primary function for a Coat Check Volunteer is to engage with visitors, provide a safe and secure space for their personal belongings, and to maintain efficient and effective practices with each interaction.
Daily Shifts Thursday-Tuesday (Museum closed on Wednesday)
Morning: 11:00AM-2:00PM
Afternoon: 2:00PM-5:00PM
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Create a warm and welcoming presence for Museum visitors and members
- Maintain organized, presentable, and safe work spaces
- Work effectively with a diverse team and diverse visitors
- Hang coats neatly, store bags and other personal belongings in cubies, and assign appropriate claim tags to ensure items are not misplaced
- Remain up to date on and answer questions from visitors regarding exhibitions, programs, and events at The Museum
- Refer visitors to Visitor Experience team for ticketing and membership questions
- Collect and store lost and found items
- Follow the lead of Visitor Experience and Security teams in emergency procedures
- Commitment to the mission and core values of The CJM
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to keep belongings in Coat Check organized and secure
- Prompt and punctual attendance
- Consideration and a respectful approach to the handling of others personal belongings
- Ability to safely carry out the duties of Coat Check
