MNHM preparator removing hard sandstone from delicate Jurassic fossils.

Morrison Natural History Museum is seeking volunteers to prepare fossils for research and display. Museum staff is currently preparing local fossils from hard sandstone matrix, including Stegosaurus, Apatosaurus, Allosaurus, turtles and other Late Jurassic animals.

Volunteers will be trained how to properly use manual, power and pneumatic hand tools as well as the use of chemicals for the consolidation of fossils. Volunteer also provide museum visitors with fossil preparation demonstrations.

Mandatory training/orientation is provided, free of charge. A minimum six-month commitment is recommended, with a monthly requirement of at least 8 hours of service.

Morrison Museum is a small institution with irregular visitor flow, volunteers are asked to assist in a secondary role, providing visitors with information, checking visitors in, monitoring the gift shop, and other duties as assigned.

Due to the demand for this volunteer position, qualified applicants may be placed on a wait list until a vacancy occurs.
