Purpose
Help an adults aged 18 - 80 improve their reading, writing, math and English language skills to meet self-identified goals
Responsibilities
Plan lessons based on learner's goals, needs, abilities and interests
Select adult materials and approaches that are suitable for learner's abilities and interests
Meet regularly and punctually
Keep records of learner attendance and progress; complete program reports as required
Seek to understand the psychological, emotional, and physical problems that may cause adults to have difficulty learning to read
Involve learner in decisions about the learning process
Help learner develop confidence and a positive attitude about learning
Notify program of any change in schedule or tutoring location; problems
Time Required
Twice-weekly meetings with learners for 1-1/2 hours each time, with schedules arranged at the convenience of the tutor and learner; plus one to two hours per week preparing for lessons.
