Come Join The SandCastles Team!

SandCastles, a grief support program for children, teens, and their families offered through Henry Ford Hospice, seeks volunteers for its Clinton Township, Detroit, Livonia, Rochester, St. Clair Shores, Southfield and West Bloomfield sites as well as for our virtual groups. SandCastles provides a supportive environment for children and teens, ages 3 to 18, and their families who have experienced the death of a loved one. Families come together for nurturing and strength as they journey through their world of grief. Responsibilities include facilitating groups for children and teens who have experienced the death of a loved one. Facilitators participate in the briefing/de-briefing sessions and assist with the set-up and tear down of their group's room and volcano room. The commitment for facilitators is twice per month from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. (for in-person programming) and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for our virtual groups. All facilitators are required to attend our comprehensive training as well as periodic in-services that are planned to meet the educational needs of our volunteers. SandCastles Volunteers have a willingness to work with children and their families under the SandCastles Philosophy and Policies (as learned during the volunteer training). When you volunteer for SandCastles, you truly make a difference in the lives of the children, teens, and families you serve.

About Henry Ford SandCastles Grief Support Program for Children and Families

Location:

3031 West Grand Blvd., Suite 300, Detroit, MI 48202, US

Mission Statement

SandCastles Grief Support Program provides a caring place for children, teens, and their families who have experienced a death. SandCastles offers quality community-based family grief services, which encourage peer support and are enhanced by educational outreach.

Description

SandCastles, a division of Henry Ford Hospice, is a grief support program that offers peer support for children and teens who have experienced a death. We provide a safe environment where children can share and be with someone who is going through the same thing that they are.

We at SandCastles believe that every child and teen deserves the opportunity to grieve in a supportive, nurturing environment. Grieving children and teens are offered a special place where they can interact with peers who have experienced similar losses, learn life-long coping skills and most importantly, begin a healthy healing process. Support groups for children and teens ages 3 to 18 and their parents/guardians are offered twice monthly, in the evening at the following locations: Rochester, St. Clair Shores, West Bloomfield, and Virtually over Zoom. Other services areas include: Detroit, Livonia, and Clinton Twp.

We also offer a SandCastles Community where families can participate in one-time special events, programming, and experiences both virtually and in-person. In addition to our year long program, SandCastles also offers an overnight three-day, two-night bereavement camp which is usually held once a year in August for children and teens in grades two through twelve.
