Mission Statement
At Halfway Hounds, our mission is to give homeless dogs a new leash on life by offering them the obedience training, behavior modification and emotional rehabilitation they need to become adoptable pets.
Halfway Hounds assists potentially adoptable dogs who have been owner-surrendered or can no longer stay at a shelter. Our program provides every dog with temporary boarding and a customized training program to prepare them for adoption. In addition, new pet owners receive a behavior assessment report on the dog, free or discounted obedience training and follow-up visits and calls from a trainer.
Halfway Hounds is a non-profit organization and a recognized 501(c)(3) charity organization. We need donations, volunteers and foster homes.
Help us give these dogs a new leash on life!
Description
Halfway Hounds is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that gives potentially adoptable dogs a new leash on life, with grooming, training, rehabilitation and temporary housing.
We serve the state of New Jersey, focusing primarily on Bergen, Passaic and Camden counties. Halfway Hounds assists dogs (strays or owner-surrendered) who can no longer be kept at a shelter, or at a veterinary hospital by providing a foster home or temporary boarding until the dog is adopted. Many of these dogs, particularly pets that are owner-surrendered, may have behavior problems and need a little time, training and rehabilitation to prepare them for a new home. It is necessary for many dogs to be removed from the stressful shelter environment before behavior modification and successful training can occur.
What makes Halfway Hounds unique?
The Halfway Hounds program provides:
- Temporary housing
- Grooming
- Behavior assessment and modification
- Obedience training
- Medical attention
and all the love they need until they find a family!
Our goal is to place every adoptable dog, educate the community about dog behavior and assist in providing necessary training to dog and family for a successful adoption leading to a permanent home. The new pet owner(s) will receive a behavior assessment report on the dog, free or discounted obedience training and a follow-up call or visit from the trainer that worked with the dog as part of our program.
Halfway Hounds will also assist victims of domestic violence, providing temporary shelter and therapy for their dogs while they begin to rebuild their lives.
Help us help homeless dogs!
