Children Are People, Inc. needs volunteers to work with at-risk youth in grades K-12 in Gallatin, TN. The Center is open four afternoons a week --M, T, W, Th. Hours are 2:30 to 5:45 pm.
We have a specific need for MATH, SCIENCE and READING tutors. We also need help in computer/technical support, fundraising, grant writing and various administrative duties. We also have openings in our "kitchen" serving meals - Mondays and Tuesdays-- 3:00 to 4:30. We also welcome volunteers to work with the elementary students on homework.
Time, patience and the ability to work with kids is a must.

Mission Statement
Through Founder Fred Bailey's formula for success, Desire + Ambition + Persistence = Work Ethic, the staff and volunteers of Children Are People, Inc. (CAP) empower and enrich the at-risk children of Sumner County to develop the academic and life skills necessary to produce responsible, self-sufficient adults who contribute to their community
Description
"It is not the aim of Children Are People to level the playing field. Our endeavor is to get disadvantaged young people on the field." -- Fred Bailey, Founder & Executive Director
As one of fifteen children of sharecroppers from Gallatin, Tennessee, Fred was born without the gift of full sight. Despite an intimate relationship with disadvantage, he received a Bachelor's degree from Tennessee State University, worked at General Electric and served as a middle school and high school wrestling coach.
What is his secret recipe for success?
It begins and ends with the presence of caring adults in a child's life, adults who encourage ambition, model a positive work ethic and focus on personal responsibility. Knowing the influence adult mentors had in his life, Fred founded Children Are People, Inc. in order to provide these same advantages to youth in Sumner County, where he currently resides.
Desire + Ambition + Persistence = Work Ethic
