The volunteer literacy tutor meets with an adult student for one 2-hour block of time weekly at the Taunton Public Library to work one-on-one on literacy skills. Students are either immigrants learning English or people who did not complete high school and are improving their literacy skills and/or studying to take the GED tests. Tutors complete a 12-hour training plus classroom observation. All materials for tutoring are provided. Opportunities are available for tutoring in reading, writing and math. Tutors need tutor only in subjects with which they are comfortable. Tutoring is at a time convenient to both the tutor and student.
