Do you enjoy working with seniors and like making a difference? If your answer is yes, Nevada Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is looking for you to join our Statewide team of volunteers taking part in the fight against fraud, waste and abuse in Medicare. Medicare fraud is a big problem. It not only costs taxpayers an estimated $60 billion each year, but results in medical identity theft and excessive out of pocket costs for thousands of Medicare beneficiaries.
SMP volunteers play an important role in the effort to address this problem by educating Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers through presentations, outreach events (i.e. staffing exhibits at health fairs) and one-on-one counseling, and by assisting in reporting questionable billing and service delivery practices.
SMP volunteers receive comprehensive training to prepare them for their assignments and on-going education to keep abreast of the latest fraud and scam activities. All volunteers are subject to background checks.
If you have some free time and want to make a difference, contact us for more information about our volunteer program. Volunteer opportunities are available statewide. New training sessions will be starting soon.
The Nevada SMP program is funded in part by grants from the U.S. Administration on Aging and is administered by the State of Nevada Aging and Disabilities Service Division. Our mission is to help Medicare beneficiaries prevent, detect and report health care fraud, waste and abuse. For more information about the national program go to: www. smpresource.org and our Nevada program: www.smpnvadsd.org
