  • 11 people are interested

We are always in the need of docents to share their love of astronomy with the public. We provide new volunteer training, as well as training on operating our three large telescopes. Volunteer work can vary depending on interest and skills, but can include assisting the public visiting the observatory, giving lectures, and observing with small or large telescopes.

About Valley of the Moon Observatory Association

Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, P.O. Box 898, Glen Ellen, CA 95442, US

Mission Statement

We are volunteer amateur and professional astronomers organized as a non-profit association to provide educational programs about science and astronomy for students, the public, and in support of educators. We do this by building and operating the Ferguson Observatory.

The VMOA built and operates the Robert Ferguson Observatory (RFO) at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park near Kenwood. We offer public observing, private group observing, Night Sky classes, Relativity for Non-Scientist classes and telescope making classes for students and the general public. The VMOA is all-volunteer (no paid positions) and operates as part of the Valley of the Moon Natural History Assn. docent program.
