VOLUNTEER AS A TEACHING AIDE IN A COMPUTER LITERACY CLASS! Volunteers needed to help teach basic computer literacy to janitors and other service workers. Our Organization: Building Skills Partnership (BSP) is a statewide non-profit collaboration between the Californian janitors' union, SEIU-USWW, community leaders, and responsible businesses to build a strong future for building service workers, their families, and communities by advancing skills, opportunities, and self-sufficiency.
Responsibilities: Work with instructor to lead small groups of students in activities within a basic computer skills class (computer basics, creating an email account, internet searches, using Microsoft Word, etc). Assist students as needed. Contribute to course development by observing student needs and progress. Able to commit to helping the majority of Saturdays for the duration of the course.
Volunteer Skill Requirements: * Patience, enthusiasm, and respect for other cultures. * Dependability and flexibility. * Spanish speaking skills and teaching experience helpful, but not required. Where: SEIU-USWW Office: 3411 E. 12th St., Suite 200, Oakland, CA (Fruitvale BART plaza)
When: Saturdays from 9:30am-12pm beginning September 17th and ending December 17th
Benefits: As a volunteer at BSP you will receive training and gain experience teaching basic computer skills, gain knowledge about the issues facing newcomer families, and learn about the social services and other resources available to immigrants and low-wage workers in the Bay Area counties. BSP has 501(c)(3), and volunteer hours can count towards fulfilling certain community service requirement.

The Building Skills Partnership (BSP) represents a unique non-profit collaboration between the property service workers’ union Service Employees International Union - United Service Workers West (SEIU- USWW), commercial building owners, property service employers, client companies and community leaders. BSP offers comprehensive programs tailored to the diverse needs of the community. Our core strategies leverage workforce development, immigrant integration, and community advancement. We have seven offices across the state of California from Sacramento to San Diego. Building Skills Partnership program areas and its curriculum play a key role in driving the productivity and competitiveness of the industry and contributing to the economic and social development of our communities throughout the state.
