Cashiers are needed to help operate the Happy Dragon Thrift Shop's retail store. Duties include ringing up sales, customer service (opening locked cabinets), and bagging purchases.

We ask new volunteers to commit to working three shifts per month for their first three months.

Shifts are approximately 3 1/2 hours long, and go from 9:45 - 1:00 Monday - Saturday and 1 - 4:30 (ish) on Monday - Friday.

The shop is friendly and fun, and our cause is worthy. Join us!

Mission Statement

The mission of the EMQ Guild is to raise money for EMQ FamiliesFirst, a private social services agency based in California, through the operation of the Happy Dragon Thrift Shop.

Description

Founded in 1958, the Happy Dragon Thrift Shop is run by volunteers who sell clothing, books, jewelry, household goods and electronics that are donated by members of our community.

Our founders first banded together to raise money to renovate and repair the Ming Quong orphanage in the Los Gatos hills. The Ming Quong was established in the 1930's by Donaldina Cameron on donated land.

Over time Ming Quong merged with the Eastfield orphanage in San Jose, Hollygrove in Los Angeles, and finally Families First based in Davis. EMQ FamiliesFirst has also expanded its mission and services, and offers an array of programs aimed at treating children in crisis and their families.

Through a rummage sale and donations of green and blue stamps from around the nation the ladies of the Ming Quong Guild raised enough money for a down payment on the building we still operate out of today.

Volunteers at Happy Dragon join a proud tradition of service to our community and work for a better future for all children.
