Summary:Docents interact directly with visitors in facilitating education and public programs. Tasks include providing general knowledge on the Museum's campus and collections to visitors, and may include facilitating educational school programs and outreach programming. Docents should arrive thirty minutes prior to their assigned shift. Must be able interact with children. Formal training provided. Regular schedule encouraged.
Functions and Responsibilities:
- To courteously greet visitors, answer questions, assist with general information and inquiries while developing knowledge and demonstrate visitor-friendly behavior
- To educate visitors about the site, collections and exhibits of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum
- Facilitate education, public and outreach programming
- Support staff in daily operation of museum
- Communicate effectively and use good judgment and discretion
Physical Standards:
- Walk/stand 75-100% of the time

Comprised of the oldest and most comprehensive collection of railroad history in the Western Hemisphere, the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum, Inc. is a unique cultural and educational asset for the city and the region. An unparalleled roster of the 19th and 20th century railroad equipment, original shop buildings, and surviving tracks at the historic Mt. Clare site provide an integrated resource to present virtually every aspect of American railroad development and its impact on our society, culture and economy.
