We have opportunities to tutor our 'Charter School' students (kittens), located within the Petco at Westwood & Missouri. Charter School is an enclosure space and adoption venue for our adoptable kitties - those who have been socialized, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated so are ready for their forever homes! The Charter School curriculum is designed to help our rescue kittens transition into a forever homes. Having come from the more regimented (best for socialization and medical oversight) schedule at the Charm School, we focus on enrichment, exploration, and acclimation. While the kits continue to receive lesson plans from our volunteers throughout the day, the focus is on individualized tutoring. While one student may be ready to explore his surroundings on a leash. another may prefer to watch the birdies from your arms.
Currently, we are in immediate need of a 'teacher' so care for our students every Sunday evening (Dinner Shift).
All opportunities are open to individuals or pairs (space is limited), and weekly shifts are fairly flexible. Generally, each shift lasts 1.5 - 2.5 hours, and breakfast is served anytime between 7 and 10:30 am, lunch (cuddle & clean) between 11am and 3pm, and dinner between 5 and 8:30 pm. This flexible scheduling is designed to better emulate a home environment, where feeding and interaction time may vary depending upon the day of the week and other factors.
In addition to feeding, volunteers tidy, scoop, provide general care and tutor kittens on proper pet deportment (socialization and play) plus grooming - trim nails, brush and wash little faces and paws if needed! You'd also share the organization's story and answer questions about the students or adoption process. All training is provided!
Kitty Bungalow is Southern California's only 100% feral cat rescue and socialization facility. As shelter interventionists, we focus our attention on the most vulnerable of felines. At the Charm School we break down the anxiety of feral cats with our nearly 100 volunteers who use guided socialization techniques and 'lesson plans', taking these street cats from 'hiss to home'. Kittens who have completed their lesson plans and are ready for adoption are enrolled in our Charter School, where they polish their pet skills and find forever homes! Our rescue is more than just finding homes for the homeless; we are working at the root of the problem, also providing broad based Trap Neuter Return (TNR) and free spays and neuters to neighborhoods in need within Los Angeles.

To reduce the feline overpopulation problem in South Los Angeles through the proven Trap-Neuter-Return program coupled with the socialization and adoption of the felines we catch who are eligible for Charm School.
We are dedicated to the rescue, socialization and rehoming of street cats in South LA. Our goal is to ramp up the Trap, Neuter, Return programs in that area and try and nip the inevitable cat explosion in the bud. If we don't do something and get people involved, the 8000 cats that will go unfixed this year will become 60,000 within the next 18 months. That is a lot of cats...
We'll work with your schedule.
