Our Studio Arts students and volunteers have fun!
Nearly 50 art courses offered each quarter; Our volunteers help make them happen by providing hospitality and logistical support to our instructors. It's a great way to learn about a wide variety of art mediums while helping to ensure everything runs smoothly in the classroom.

The Smithsonian Associates Program seeks volunteers who love art, and the process of making it, to assist our instructors and students in our virtual and in-person studio arts classes. No expertise in art is needed; but a desire to learn about it is ideal.

In-person volunteers oversee check in/registration, configure the classroom space before and after each session (set up and clean up), and help the instructors with simple tasks. Remote volunteers are expected to take attendance, manage the waiting room, post and maintain the chat box, and provide assistance to students on behalf of Smithsonian associates.

These opportunities provide a great way to learn about a wide variety of artistic mediums, as you can listen in on the instruction and even dabble in your own artwork off to the side, using your own art supplies.

We offer about 90 different art courses in quarterly semesters. Generally they meet weekly for 4, 6 or 8 weeks, with some exceptions. To see our current course descriptions, check out https://smithsonianassociates.org/ticketing/Events/index.aspx?Studio-Arts-New
