The York County Literacy Council is seeking volunteers to serve on the Planning for Give Local York, Fund Development, Marketing and Buck A Book committees. Marketing Committee is responsible for increasing interest in YCLC and raising awareness of our programs and events. Fund Development Committee works to increase donor support. Buck A Book is a fundraiser motivating school students to read and raise funds to support YCLC programs. Students receive prizes for their efforts. Give Local York is to build a creative program to engage community during the one day of giving - May 3, 2024.

The time commitment will be approximately 2 hours per month for each committee meeting plus any time required to complete necessary tasks between monthly meetings.

The York County Literacy Council provides literacy services to adults of York County. We provide tutoring and classes for GED students, and English as a Second Language Students. Our Next Step Program helps students prepare for employment opportunities.

Description

the York County Literacy Council (YCLC) offers free and confidential services to York County Residents regardless of race, creed, color, sex, national origin, or socioeconomic status. YCLC offers three programs: Adult Reading, English as a Second Language, and Family Reading. Within these programs YCLC provides assessment for adult students, development of individual educational plans, instructional placement, family programs, books and materials for both tutors and students, itial and inservice training for volunteers, evaluation of progress and post testing, referrals to human service and educational agencies, and consultations of literacy topics.
