Providing take away sandwiches for shelter guests is a very flexible and fun way to help people experiencing homelessness.

Our shelter is open overnight only, from 5 pm until 9 am. When guests leave in the morning they may take sandwiches to eat later. This helps bridge the food gap during the day and also allows working people to save their money.

There are two different ways to participate in this volunteer opportunity. Volunteers may participate at our shelter with a tour and other educational activities, or on their own site and deliver to us.

Sandwich Provider on or off-site: Purchase plastic gloves, bread, meat, cheese, and sandwich bags. Any kind of whole-grain bread, meat (except for bologna), and cheese are welcome, keeping in mind you are to make sandwiches that you would like to eat. Quality is more important than quantity. Most people make about 100 sandwiches, though sometimes we are able to accept more.

More details and instructions will be provided.

This volunteer opportunity must be scheduled through Nahrissa Rush, nrush@simpsonhousing.org

Please note: All sandwich donations must be scheduled with the volunteer coordinator to ensure that the shelter has the capacity to accept your donation. Donations that are not scheduled may be refused.
