Providing lunch for shelter guests is a very flexible and fun way to help people experiencing homelessness.
Our shelter is open overnight only, from 5 pm until 9 am. When guests leave in the morning they may take sandwiches (and bag lunches if we have them) to eat later. This helps bridge the food gap during the day and also allows working people to save their money.
There are three different volunteer opportunities. Volunteers may participate at our shelter with a tour and other educational activities, or on their own site and deliver to us.
Sandwich Provider: Purchase plastic gloves, bread, meat, cheese, and sandwich bags. Any kind of bread, meat, and cheese is welcome, keeping in mind you are to make sandwiches that you would like to eat. Quality is more important than quantity. You will purchase enough materials to make 100 sandwiches. If you would like to contribute more than 100 sandwiches please contact the coordinator.
Bag Lunch Provider: Purchase paper lunch bags, bottled water, individual bags of chips, individually wrapped cookie/brownie/granola bar, and napkins. You will need enough to make 50 bag lunches.
Square Meal Dealer: These volunteers put together both sandwiches and bag lunches.
This volunteer opportunity must be scheduled through Jessica Lamb, firstname.lastname@example.org
