Purpose:

To provide visitors from other cultures with information that will enrich their visit to Grand Village of the Natchez Indians. This information shall educate the public about the history, people, and culture of the Natchez

Assist Guide/Host by serving as an interpreter (greeting and signing in group, escort group to the area where the tour will begin, conduct overview of site, explain guidelines, be available to answer questions).

Mission Statement

To interpret the site of the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians which was the main ceremonial center of the Natchez from 1682 until 1729, according to historical and archaeological evidence.

Description

The 128-acre Grand Village site features a museum accredited by the American Association of Museums, a reconstructed Natchez Indian house, and three ceremonial mounds. Two of the mounds, the Great Sun's Mound and the Temple Mound, have been excavated and rebuilt to their original sizes and shapes. One of the most popular events is the Natchez Powwow which features traditional Native American dancing, foods, and crafts.
